SE/4 of Section 11, T6S-R9W.
DIRECTIONS:
From the intersection of US 90 and Washington Avenue at Ocean
Springs, go north to Tucker Road. Tucker Road to Old Biloxi Road to
Larue Road.
HISTORY:
Eighty acres of land being the W/2 of the SE/4 of Section 11,
T6S-R9W, purchased for a home site by David Langston Delancey
(1857-1942) in April 1882. He was the son of Henry Delancey
(1830-1903) and Susan (1835-1884).(JXCO, Ms. Land Deed Bk. 6, pp.
33-34)
David L. Delancey was married to Mary Elizabeth Walden
(1870-1950). Her parents were Virginian, Benjamin Walden
(1821-1866+) and Minerva Fartheree (b. 1837). Mr. Walden
served
as sheriff of Harrison County from 1862-1866. The Fartheree family
had come to Mississippi before 1850, from Georgia.
David L. Delancey made his livelihood as a farmer, logger,
and coal burner. Mrs. Mary Delancey served as postmaster at Latimer
from 1908 to 1913.
The Delanceys had eight children: Bertha D. Wescovich, Clara
D. Cunningham (1891-1957), Grace D. Quave (1899-1951), Virda
Mallette (1897-1979), Walter Delancey (1889-1962), Howard
Delancey (1908-1991), Clifton Delancey (1903-1908), and Austin
Delancey (?-1996).
David L. Delancey conveyed to Verda D. Mallette in May 1937.
In June 1941, Verda D. Mallette to David L. Delancey et al. In June
1941, David L. Delancey to Howard Delancey. (JXCO, Ms. Land Deed Bk.

Howard
Delancey was married to Ophelia Cates (b. 1920). Their children
were: Melba June McGill, Wallace Ira Delancey, and Howard Derald
Delancey. Mr. Delancey made his living as a ship fitter for Ingalls
Shipbuilding at Pascagoula. He was a Master Mason and member of the
Ezell Lodge No. 426 at Vancleave. His corporal remains were
interred at the Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Latimer.
In January 1965, Howard Delancey conveyed to Ophelia Cates
Delancey, his wife, the W/2 of the SE/4 of Section 11, T7S-R9W, less
two acres conveyed to his sons, Howard Derald
Delancey and Wallace Ira Delancey.(JXCO, Ms. Land Deed Bk. 267, p.
